Digital detox: Is it time for you to stop the scroll?
Have you ever audited your digital consumption vs digital creation ratio?
Do you look at your screen time statistics?
Is it time to consider how the scrolling is impacting your mental health?
Comparison is the thief of joy
We’ve all heard that. But scrolling isn’t just creating comparisons.
Scrolling asks you to make thousands of micro-decisions:
Should I watch / read this?
Is this worthy of a ‘like’?
Do I agree with this?
Should I comment?
What are other people commenting?
Should I send this to someone?
Have they already seen it?
What reaction am I expecting from them?
And on and on it goes…
Now multiply all of those questions / decisions-points for each post and reel you see during a single scrolling session.
No wonder brain fog and mental fatigue are becoming common complaints!
I don’t want to add to your mental strain, but I do have one more question for you:
Do you get value from scrolling?
I’m not ANTI anything.
I am PRO conscious choice.
If you feel like you get value from scrolling social media, I don’t think there’s a problem.
Embrace the escapism. Enjoy the entertainment factor - for as long as it does genuinely remain entertaining.
But if the entertainment fades, or you no longer enjoy the scroll, but you find yourself unable to stop:
Let’s release the subconscious patterns and beliefs which keep you scrolling.
